This is a joint network meeting between the Funky Lizard network and the Black and Minority Ethnic Network. We will be discussing opportunities and issues for families in Tameside and how local service providers can support them.Main event / training advert text goes here

Never before has the network for families, kids and youths come together with the BME network to discuss the experience of families in Tameside.

We will have a key note speaker – Barbara Kelly from the new organisation, the Family Strategic Partnership, explaining the government's thoughts about how to support and engage families in the future.

We will then discuss what we see as the opportunities and issues for families in Tameside and how local service providers can support them. We already know that there are shared issues around childcare and literacy for lots of parents and maybe together the two networks can develop some innovative solutions to these problems. There are also opportunities for communities of families to set up free schools or run family services in the future so it would be good to start thinking about these opportunities now.

Challenges, Change and Collaboration - the T3SC and VCT AGM

An important and informative afternoon event, with speakers on the subject of ‘Challenges, Change and Collaboration', as well as afternoon tea (and, hopefully, celebration cake!). This year, T3SC and VCT are holding their Annual General Meetings within the same event.

At the AGMs, T3SC and VCT will be recommending to members that the two organisations combine forces under a new joint organisation, Community and Voluntary Action Tameside (CAVAT) and dissolve their current legal forms. Our Boards believe that this is the best and most sustainable way to provide quality support to volunteers, community and voluntary groups working for the benefit of people in the borough.

Each organisation currently offers a range of high quality services that complements the other. Collectively, under CAVAT, it will be easier for groups to access the support they need, and the sharing of resources will reduce duplication and cost, ensuring that more is available to spend on frontline services. A single strategy and strategic direction will help to ensure that the voice of volunteering and community and voluntary action are presented locally in a strong, coherent way and can be grown and developed further, but we will keep the individual names / brands that our members and stakeholders understand and interact with.

This unique joint network meeting brings together the Funky Lizard network and the Black and Minority Ethnic network to discuss what we see as the opportunities and issues for families in Tameside and how local service providers can support them.

Community Rights Made Real: Getting to grips with the Localism Bill

As the government introduces new community rights designed to give local people the chance to take action on local services, assets and development, we want to make sure that groups are equipped with the knowledge and skills to take advantage of these rights.

We know that local community group organisers are interested in using all the opportunities there are for community based action, but that there are concerns about capacity, keeping up with the pace of change, and the inequality in communities' ability to take advantage of the new rights proposed.

This one day workshop for local community groups will help you make a difference...

	The aims of the workshop

Our aims are to support local groups to prepare for the practicalities, opportunities and challenges of the rights within the Localism Bill, and to support inclusion and equality in how the new rights are taken up, focusing in particular on the needs of communities who currently lack power.

	The workshops will:

Brief people on the details of all the new community rights.

Discuss their practical implications for communities.

Share experience of existing community action - successes and pitfalls.

Support community groups and community activists to plan the first steps in taking action using the new rights.

Nurturing the Roots - Building Sustainability in the BME Women's sector

The voluntary and community sector faces extremely challenging times, especially the Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) women’s sector. BME women’s groups work within some of the most marginalised and vulnerable communities in the country, providing specialised services in culturally appropriate ways to women that many others find hard to reach. Nurturing the Roots is a free event (organised by Oxfam’s Routes to Solidarity Project) which brings together BME women’s groups and funding bodies to look at how BME women’s groups can ensure their survival, become more sustainable and increase the impact that they have.

Join us at this event, where you can:

Talk to funders about the needs of your communities and your groups.

Learn more about social enterprise; winning contracts; and writing successful funding bids.

Visit funders’ stalls, to find out about their funding and support.

Network with other groups, hearing about how they are building their sustainability.

Enjoy hot food provided by two BME social enterprises.

A range of funders are taking part, and include:

The Big Lottery Fund.

All-Party Parliamentary Group on Migration visit the North West

This is the first time that this group of MPs has met outside of London!

One North West’s event will bring together BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) groups, the wider voluntary sector and key decision makers to support the emergence of mainstream, progressive policy debate on migration in the UK parliament. This will then be presented to the Minister of Immigration so it is an excellent opportunity to have an influence.
